Redskins Injury Update: Jordan Reed has a sprained thumb

By on 8/26/2014 10:00:00 AM

Washington tight end Jordan Reed missed practice Monday with a sprained thumb, reported.

However, there is no need to worry. Head coach Jay Gruden said that Reed could have practiced, but he had issues catching the ball and that Reed would be ready for the team's season opener on September 7.

Reed, like majority of Washington's other starters, played 23 snaps in Saturday's game against the Baltimore Ravens. In his postgame press conference, Gruden did not mention an injury to Reed, but in a press conference after Monday's practice, he addressed the injury.

"He sprained his thumb. He'll be OK," Gruden said. "He didn't feel good about catching the ball, a little sore. He did a lot of running on the outside though so he'll be fine for Houston. He's out for Tampa."

Reed may not be the only Washington offensive player to miss the Tampa Bay game. Gruden said there is a chance he sits all of his starters for the final preseason game.

"Whether they play a series or not in Tampa, it's probably a ten percent chance," Gruden said. "I'm leaning towards no. We'll see how we are as far as bodies are concerned when we get ready to play Tampa."
