By on 8/02/2014 11:45:00 AM

The Colorado Rockies fell to the Detroit Tigers on Friday by the score of 4-2. The loss dropped the Rockies to 21 games below .500 at 44-65, last in the National League West. An offense that is fourth in runs scored managed just two runs off Justin Verlander over eight innings. To further add to their offensive woes, outfielder Carlos Gonzalez had to leave the game in the fifth inning with an ankle sprain.

As reported by Matt Slovin of, Gonzalez injured his right ankle while making a sliding catch in right-field foul territory. The latest injury adds to his woes, as he missed much of the second half last season and a portion of this season due to a cell tumor on his left index finger. The latest injury is a re-aggravation to his right ankle that he hurt last Saturday and has Gonzalez listed as day-to-day.

Gonzalez, in his seventh Major League season, is batting .237 with 10 home runs and 36 RBI in just 66 games. Injury-plagued the last couple of seasons, Gonzalez appeared in only 110 games last year, but still hit 26 home runs with 70 RBI and a .302 batting average. He's a career .294 hitter with 135 home runs and 455 RBI.
