Rockies Injury Update: Jordan Lyles makes scoreless rehab start

By on 8/01/2014 09:30:00 AM

The Colorado Rockies fell to the Chicago Cubs on Thursday by the score of 3-1. The loss dropped the Rockies to 20 games below .500 at 44-64, last in the National League Central. The pitching staff which is near the bottom of the league in ERA, allowed only three earned runs. The offense, though, managed just five hits. On the injury front, there is good news regarding Jordan Lyles, who made a scoreless rehab start for the Colorado Springs Sky Box.

I reported on July 28 that Lyles began a rehab assignment with Class A Modesto on Saturday. He went 3 2/3 innings, allowing three hits, two walks, no runs and struck out four.  Lyles is expected to return to the Rockies on August 5, barring no setbacks.

An update on Lyles, as reported by the official website of the Colorado Springs Sky Box, is that he made another rehab outing, throwing 4 2/3 innings of shutout ball, leading the Sky Box to their seventh home shutout of the season.  Lyles continues a suspended game and allowed only three hits and two walks, while striking out four.

Lyles, in his fourth Major League season, is 5-1 with a 3.52 ERA, in 12 starts. He's allowed 64 hits and walked 24 in 69 innings, while striking out 49.  In 84 career games with the Astros and Rockies, Lyles is 19-30 with a 5.07 ERA.
