Rockies Injury Update: Tommy Kahnle, Justin Morneau, DJ LeMahieu

By on 8/17/2014 01:15:00 PM

The Colorado Rockies placed right-hander Tommy Kahnle on the 15-day DL on Saturday, as tweeted by Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post. Kahnle has a shoulder strain and was replaced on the roster by Brooks Brown. Meanwhile, both Justin Morneau and DJ LeMahieu were set to be given the day off on Saturday because of nagging injuries, before the Rockies-Reds contest was postponed.

Before the game on Saturday was moved to Sunday as a result of a burst water main outside Coors Field, Saunders reported that first baseman Morneau was scratched with a stiff neck and would be replaced by the recently-activated Michael Cuddyer.  Second baseman LeMahieu was also out of the lineup, with reporting that LeMahieu was battling a sore ankle, sustained during Friday's game when he was hit by a takeout slide (seen below).

Manager Walt Weiss told that he was considering resting his second baseman for Sunday as well, as Colorado has an off-day Monday, giving the infielder three full days to recover. The lineup for the first Rockies game was not yet available at the time of writing but Charlie Culberson was set to start at second on Saturday and so presumably would be the likely candidate to play the position for at least one game of the double-header.
