Royals Injury Update: Eric Hosmer to get X-rays Thursday

By on 8/14/2014 06:15:00 AM

According to Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star, Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer will undergo a x-ray on his hand Thursday, and hopes to resume swinging a bat after. “If it’s all healed up, then we start the hitting progression,” Hosmer said before Monday’s game against the Athletics.

Hosmer was hit by a fastball in July, and a CT scan a few weeks ago revealed a stress fracture in Hosmer's hand, but he was able to avoid surgery. It was discovered on July 31. In his absence, the Royals have gone 8-1. Billy Butler, who's playing first base in Hosmer's absence, is 13-38 with one home run since the injury was discovered.

Originally, Hosmer was supposed to miss 3-6 weeks, so this would be right in the middle of the initial prognosis. The Royals acquired Josh Willingham earlier this week from the Twins, presumably to DH while Butler plays first base. Before the injury, Hosmer was batting .267, with six home runs.
