Royals Injury Update: Eric Hosmer to have another X-ray Monday

By on 8/25/2014 06:00:00 AM

The Kansas City Royals dropped to 72--57 on the season following a 3-1 loss to the Texas Rangers on Sunday. Even with the loss, the Royals hold a two-game lead in the American League Central. At the middle of the pack in runs scored, the Royals should get a boost when Eric Hosmer returns from the disabled list. But the Royals will have to wait at least a little while longer, as Hosmer has not yet been cleared to start a hitting program.

I reported on August 15 that Hosmer,  who has been out with a stress fracture in his right hand, would have an X-ray and would not be cleared to swing a bat for at least a week.

Andy McCullough, who covers the Royals for The Kansas City Star, tweeted the following update on Hosmer.
Billy Butler should continue to see the majority of the playing time at first base until Hosmer returns. Butler is batting .277 with nine home runs and 54 RBI this season.

Hosmer, in his fourth Major League season, is batting .267 with six home runs and 46 RBI. He hit a career high .302 last season with 17 home runs and 79 RBI. Hosmer is a career .275 hitter with 110 doubles, 56 home runs and 263 RBI in 543 games.
