Royals Injury Update: Eric Hosmer cleared to swing bat

By on 8/25/2014 04:15:00 PM

The Kansas City Royals enter tonight's game against the New York Yankees with a two-game lead in the American League Central. At the middle of the pack in runs scored, the Royals should add some additional firepower for the stretch run when Eric Hosmer returns from the disabled list. The good news is that Hosmer has been cleared to swing a bat and hopes to begin a rehab assignment soon.

I reported this morning that Hosmer, who has been out with a stress fracture in his right hand, was scheduled to have an X-ray today and was hoping to be cleared to start a hitting program.

Andy McCullough, who covers the Royals for The Kansas City Star, tweeted the following update on Hosmer.
Hosmer is batting .267 with six home runs and 46 RBI. He hit a career high .302 last season with 17 home runs and 79 RBI. Hosmer is a career .275 hitter with 110 doubles, 56 home runs and 263 RBI in 543 games.

Billy Butler will continue to play first base in Hosmer's absence and should return to the designated hitter role when Hosmer returns.
