Royals Injury Update: MRI comes back clean for catcher Salvador Perez

By on 8/22/2014 08:15:00 AM

The Kansas City Royals dodged a bullet last night, as young catcher Salvador Perez's MRI on his knee came back clean.  Manager Ned Yost told's Dick Kaegel that the procedure was just a precaution and mainly for peace of mind for Perez.  He also said that Perez is expected to be back in the lineup some time this weekend.
As one of the brightest young catchers, he is a player that the Royals cannot afford to miss as they look to finally get back to the playoffs.

They have been one of the hottest teams in all of baseball over the second half, as they have taken over the American League Central.  The 24-year-old Perez has been one of the main reasons why they have been so good.

For the third straight season, Perez has double digit home runs.  Through 115 games this season, he has a .268 batting average and 15 home runs.  He also was a member of the American League All-Star team for the second straight year.  Of all the Royals he may possibly be the most irreplaceable.

With a little over a month left of in the stretch drive the Royals will need everything they can as they look to stave off the Tigers and others in the AL.  With Perez excepted to remain active and in the lineup, they could not be happier.
