Royals Injury Update: Salvador Perez to have MRI on knee

By on 8/21/2014 09:45:00 AM

The Kansas City Royals fell to the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday by the score of 5-2. The loss dropped the Royals to 70-56, a game ahead of the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central. Alex Gordon and Erik Kratz knocked in the only runs for the Royals. Kratz was starting for the injured Salvador Perez, out with a knee injury. Perez is scheduled for an MRI on his knee.

Our own Rose Ingberman reported on August 19 that Perez was removed from Monday's 6-4 win over the Minnesota Twins with discomfort in his right knee. Kratz replaced Perez and hit two home runs.  Manager Ned Yost was not concerned and said Perez was day-to-day.

Andy McCullough, who covers the Royals for The Kansas City Star, tweeted the following update on Perez.
If Perez is unable to go on Friday against the Texas Rangers, Erik Kratz would get the start.

Perez, in his fourth Major League season, is batting .268 with 15 home runs and 54 RBI this season. He's a career .290 hitter with 49 home runs and 193 RBI.
