Tigers Injury Update: Anibal Sanchez and Joakim Soria to DL

By on 8/10/2014 12:00:00 PM

The Detroit Tigers have placed both Anibal Sanchez and Joakim Soria on the disabled list after losing them to in-game injuries on Friday and Saturday as reported by James Schmehl.

Anibal Sanchez
Sanchez left Friday night's rough outing with a pectoral muscle strain as reported by our own Darius Austin. The right-hander said that the pain was too great for him to continue. Sanchez headed back to Detroit for an MRI scan. It was reported this morning that he was not able to avoid the disabled list. It appears that the right-hander could miss three-to-four weeks. According to Schmehl, Robbie Ray will be recalled from Triple-A to take his spot.

Joakim Soria
According to Jason Beck, Soria is dealing with an oblique strain. He thought he could pitch through it, but while warming up for the 10th inning, he could tell the pain was too much to overcome. With Soria on the disabled list the Tigers bullpen will be quite shorthanded today because of Joe Nathan's long outings the past two days. Look for Joba Chamberlain as the back-end option if needed.

For a slumping team who is just holding on to first place, this is not good news at all.
