Tigers Injury Update: Eugenio Suarez exits with knee sprain

By on 8/05/2014 07:30:00 AM

Detroit Tigers shortstop Eugenio Suarez left Monday night's loss to the New York Yankees early with a left knee sprain. Tom Gage of the Detroit News tweeted the injury, indicating that Suarez would be evaluated further on Tuesday:
Suarez was replaced by Andrew Romine after stealing second base in the fifth inning. Romine came around to score Detroit's only run of the game on an Ian Kinsler single. Manager Brad Ausmus told Gage that he thought the injury would keep Suarez out for 'more than a day'.

Detroit has had to mix and match at shortstop this year, with Jose Iglesias was ruled out for the season with stress fractures in both shins. After a brief experiment with Alex Gonzalez sharing time with Romine at the start of the year, Danny Worth was introduced to the mix with Romine getting the majority of the starts, before Suarez came up in June and has had the lion's share of the playing time since. Romine has just a .521 OPS so far, almost 200 points lower than Suarez, so the Tigers really need Suarez back in the starting lineup as soon as possible.
