Tigers Injury Update: Justin Verlander, Joakim Soria

By on 8/20/2014 01:15:00 PM

The Tigers received good news on Tuesday, as Justin Verlander is set to throw a bullpen session on Thursday in Tampa. If all goes well, Verlander could return on Saturday, as the Tigers play the Twins at Target Field, reports Lynn Henning of the Detroit News.

Verlander has been out of action since August 11th, dealing with shoulder inflammation. He said his shoulder felt a lot better in terms of joint mobility. Verlander expects it to get better day by day.

Brad Ausmus noted that relief pitcher Joakim Soria was still feeling the effects of a strained oblique muscle. Soria, who was traded to the Tigers in July, has been on the DL since August 10th.

The Tigers, who are two games behind the Royals, and are tied for the second wild card spot with the Mariners, would love to get both Verlander and Soria back. Verlander may be having a rough year, but he can still pitch deep into games, and has plenty of experience.
