Tigers Injury Update: Miguel Cabrera likely back Tuesday

By on 8/26/2014 06:45:00 PM

The Detroit Tigers enters a series against the New York Yankees tonight coming off a 13-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. Even with the loss, the Tigers are 70-59 and only a game and a half behind the Kansas City Royals in the American League Central. The Tigers played without Miguel Cabrera due to a ankle injury. The good news is that Cabrera should be ready to play in tonight's game.

Our own Ryan O'Rourke reported on August 24 that Cabrera, who aggravated his ailing ankle on Saturday night, was not in the lineup on Sunday. The Tigers were hopeful that Cabrera would be ready for the series against the New York Yankees.

Chris Iott, who covers the Tigers for, tweeted the following on Cabrera's status.
Cabrera, in his 12th Major League season, is batting .308 with 17 home runs and 89 RBI in 127 games this season. His numbers are a far cry from his back-to-back 44 home run and 130-plus RBI seasons.  The veteran has played for the Marlins and Tigers and has a career batting average of .320 with 382 home runs and 1,349 RBI.
