Tigers Injury Update: Rajai Davis exits with thumb contusion

By on 8/18/2014 10:45:00 AM

The Detroit Tigers lost to the Seattle Mariners on Sunday by the score of 8-1. The loss dropped the Tigers to 66-56, a game and a half behind the Kansas City Royals in the American League Central. The high-powered Tigers' offense, ranked fifth in runs scored, only managed a run on five hits against stingy Mariners' pitching. There was some concern as Rajai Davis, who stole three bases in the game, left in the sixth inning with a thumb contusion.

As reported by James Schmehl of, Davis injured his thumb sliding into second base head first in the fifth inning.  It appeared that Davis jammed his hand on the bag and was replaced the following inning by Don Kelly. Fortunately, an X-ray on Davis' hand came back negative. Davis feels he shouldn't take too long to recover, benefiting from today's off day.

Davis, in his ninth Major League season, is batting .289 with six home runs, 38 RBI and 30 stolen bases. The well-traveled veteran has played for the Pirates, Giants, A's, Blue Jays and Tigers and has a career batting average of .271 with 33 home runs, 262 RBI and 298 stolen bases.
