Tigers Injury Update: Return date still uncertain for Joakim Soria

By on 8/25/2014 05:45:00 AM

When the Detroit Tigers added Joakim Soria, he was expected to help fortify a battered bullpen, and help the Tigers remain in control of the American League Central.  But since his trip to the disabled list, the club has lost control of the division and fallen into second place.
Chris Iott is reporting that while he has no targeted return date, Soria has been progressing well with his oblique injury.  When manager Brad Ausmus was asked when Soria would return he had no answers, simply saying, "I can't answer that."

With the lead going and the Tigers battling to get back in the Central race, it is vital that they get him back as soon as possible.

Although he gave up six runs in his 4.1 innings with the Tigers, Soria dominated as the Rangers' closer. On the year, he has a 3.58 ERA with 17 saves.  He is not only a valuable late-inning option, he can also step in to close if current closer Joe Nathan continues to struggle.
