Twins Injury Update; Prospect Alex Meyer placed on DL

By on 8/31/2014 06:45:00 PM

Minnesota Twins top pitching prospect Alex Meyer has been placed on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation.
At 6'9" with a power-fastball, the 24-year-old Meyer has the look of an intimidating hurler who could be the club's future ace for a long time.

This season while pitching for AAA Rochester, Meyer is 7-7 with a 3.52 ERA.  To go along with these strong numbers, Meyer is averaging 10.6 strikeouts for every nine innings of work.

Like most tall pitchers, the biggest area of concern is for him to repeat his delivery and throw strikes. This season he has walked 64 batters in 130.1 innings.  Through three minor league seasons, he is close to averaging four walks per nine innings.

With September approaching, Meyer looked to be a certain call-up, but this injury looks to be the end of his season.  After a solid season this year, he is sure to have his name in the conversation for the Twins 2015 rotation as they continue the rebuild.
