Twins Injury Update: Ricky Nolasco activated from disabled list

By on 8/16/2014 06:00:00 AM

The Minnesota Twins entered a weekend series against the Kansas Cit Royals with a record of 54-65, last in the American League Central. The Twins have held their own offensively, ranked 12th in the league in runs scored. What's hindered them all season is a pitching staff that is near the bottom in ERA. Injuries have taken their toll, as Mike Pelfrey is on the 60-day disabled list and Ricky Nolasco has also missed time. The good news is that Nolasco has been activated and started against the Royals on Friday.

Our own Darius Austin reported on August 12 that Nolasco completed his rehab assignment with Class A Cedar Rapids on Sunday and should return to the rotation later this week. reported that Nolasco was activated from the 15-day disabled list after missing the last five an a half weeks due to an elbow injury. Nolasco struggled prior to the injury, so there was a question as to how well he'll perform.

Nolasco pitched six innings and allowed five earned runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts on Friday. He left the game with the Twins behind 5-3.

Nolasco, in his ninth Major League season, entered Friday with a record of 5-7 with a career worse 5.90 ERA this season.  The veteran has pitched for the Marlins, Dodgers and Twins and has a career record of 94-82 with a 4.49 ERA.
