Twins Injury Update: Trevor Plouffe, Oswaldo Arcia

By on 8/11/2014 07:00:00 AM

The Minnesota Twins defeated the Oakland A's on Sunday by the score of 6-1. The Twins scored five runs in the last two innings against Luke Gregerson and Jesse Chavez to break a 1-1 and secure the win. With the victory, the Twins moved to 52-64 on the season. The Twins were without Trevor Plouffe and Oswaldo Arcia due to injury.

Mike Berardino of reported that Plouffe and Arcia were both out of Sunday's lineup and were unavailable off the bench. Plouffe fouled a ball off his left foot in Saturday's game. Fortunately for the Twins, Plouffe's X-rays came back negative, with the third baseman telling Berardino he doesn't expect to miss more than a few days at most.

Plouffe, in his fifth Major League season, is batting .249 with eight home runs and 54 RBI this season.  He has a career batting average of .242 average with 56 home runs and 198 RBI.

As for Arcia, he tweaked his lower back on a swing during Friday's game in which he struck out three times. His outlook does not seem so positive, with Berardino suggesting he could head to the DL to make room for Joe Mauer after being unable to take swings in the cage. The second-year outfielder from Venezuela is batting .227 with eight home runs and 26 RBI this season. Arcia is a career .241 hitter with 22 home runs and 69 RBI.
