Vikings Injury Update : Anthony Barr, Linval Joseph

By on 8/27/2014 10:00:00 PM

The Minnesota Vikings are having one hell of a preseason. Unfortunately, a perfect record doesn't always mean all the wheels are turning properly. Anthony Barr, Minnesota's ninth-overall draft pick, and Linval  Joseph, the Vikings new defensive anchor, have both sustained minor injuries that will keep them both out of the Viking's preseason finale.

According to Ben Gosseling of ESPN NFL Nation, Anthony Barr has suffered a minor ankle sprain. The promising young rookie has impressed since he was drafted ninth in the 2014 draft, receiving praise from new head coach Mike Zimmer. Zimmer has even gone as far as to say there is a “strong” chance Barr will be a starter coming into the upcoming season.

Linval  Joseph finds himself in a much different position. Per NFL.com's Marc Sessler, the Defensive Tackle was shot in the calf on August 9th during a shooting at the Soundbar, a Minneapolis nightclub. The Vikings have deemed the injury “minor”, and he returned to the team later that week. Linval is currently wearing a calf sleeve over the injury, and was quoted Tuesday saying “I'll be ready to go”.

From the sounds of it, both players will be ready to go for the first game of the season against the St. Louis Rams. Linval signed a 5-year, $31.5 million dollar deal this offseason, and is expected to become a key part of the defensive system. Barr, a consensus All American, has enormous potential and will almost certainly be on the field for all of his scheduled snaps. Even at 90%, both players should find some success against a St. Louis team currently staggered by the loss of quarterback Sam Bradford. Look for both players to ease in nicely before facing a tough Patriots team in Week 2.
