Yankees Injury Update: Michael Pineda activated for start

By on 8/13/2014 05:00:00 PM

Michael Pineda has been activated and will be on the mound against Chris Tillman and the Baltimore Orioles.

Pineda's return should provide a major boost for the Yankees rotation.  Because of injuries to players like CC Sabathia and Masahiro Tanaka, many pitchers have been thrust into situations they have never been in before.  Pineda should help to bring some consistency and support other pitchers like the newly acquired Brandon McCarthy.

During his last and only full season of work, in 2011, Pineda was an All-Star and one of the best rookie pitchers in the game going 9-10 with a 3.74 ERA with the Seattle Mariners.  As a Yankee he has often dealt with injury.

This season with New York, Pineda was stellar in his first four starts going 2-2 with an ERA under two.  His return should help to make the Yankee rotation more formidable and help them to stay in the race.
