Yankees Injury Update: Brian McCann exits with concussion, placed on DL

Yankees catcher Brian McCann was removed from Friday’s 10-6 win over the Indians with a concussion, according to Bryan Hoch of He is heading to the 7-day concussion disabled list.

McCann was hit with a foul tip off the bat of infielder Mike Aviles in the third inning, but stayed in the game after trainer Steve Donohue and manager Joe Girardi examined him. Francisco Cervelli pinch-hit for McCann in sixth inning.

"He said it was his jaw," Girardi said to Hoch. "He felt like his jaw got jammed. And then in talking to him later when he came in, in the sixth, he said he felt a little foggy."

This season, McCann has struggled as he has a line of .238/.294/.384 with 13 home runs, 49 RBI, 26 walks, 58 strikeouts, and a 677 OPS in 103 games played. He has a WAR of 0.8 after signing a 5 year, $85 million deal with New York in the offseason.

In 2013, with the Braves, McCann hit for a slash of .256/.336/.461 with 20 home runs, 57 RBI, 39 walks, 66 strikeouts, and a .797 OPS in 102 games. He had a WAR of 2.2.
