Yankees Injury Update: Carlos Beltran scratched with elbow discomfort

By on 8/20/2014 04:20:00 PM

The Yankees have scratched RF Carlos Beltran from tonight's lineup. Beltran had just recently returned to playing the field for the first time since May 12th. Beltran rejoined the Yankees from a DL stint on June 5th, and had been the everyday DH since.

Its been a rough year for Beltran, who was forced onto the disabled list due to a bone spur in his right elbow back in May.

The 37 year old is hitting .233/.291/.416 on the year with 14 homers and 45 RBIs. The Yankees, who are 8.5 games behind the Orioles in the AL East standings, and 4 games out of the second wild card, were counting on Beltran's production to help them get into the playoffs.

Ken Rosenthal reported that the Yankees wouldn't place a high bid on Cuban outfielder Rusney Castillo, but with the Yankees struggling line up, and a hole in RF, will the Yanks change their mind, or let Ichiro handle RF?
