Yankees Injury Update: Carlos Beltran receives another cortisone shot

By on 8/23/2014 07:15:00 AM

The right elbow is causing problems again for New York Yankee right fielder, Carlos Beltran.  After having stints on the disabled list and two previous cortisone shots, Caitlin Rogers at Pinstripe Alley is reporting that Beltran has had his third shot.

While it is not bad enough to put Beltran on the disabled list, Rogers noted that Beltran admitted that offseason surgery is very likely.

After being a superstar player for much of his career, this season has not gone as hoped for Beltran.  Although he was one of the marquee winter additions, Beltran has struggled to stay on the field and play at his normal high level.

The 37-year-old veteran is entrenched in the worst season of his career. Through 90 games he is batting just .233 with 14 home runs.

They were hopeful that he would play on Friday night, but he was again held out of the lineup in the Yankees' 4-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

As one of the best playoff performers of the past decade, Beltran's presence is pivotal for the stretch drive.  If they have hopes to get Derek Jeter to the playoffs one last time, they need to have Beltran at full strength and contributing as the season winds down.
