Yankees Injury Update: Mark Teixeira sits with hamstring tightness

By on 8/26/2014 06:15:00 AM

Pain and Mark Teixeira seem to go together like peanut-butter and jelly.  In last night's game, his cranky hamstring held him out of action for yet another game.  Mark Feinsand reported that while he could have played, sitting out was not the worst move for Teixeira.
Since joining the Yankees, Teixeira has continually battled injuries. After playing in 15 games last season, he was has only been able to play in 96 so far this year.  Although he still has power, as exhibited in his 20 home runs this season, his time missed has not allowed him to be among the league-leading sluggers as he once was.

This season at the plate, Teixeira is batting just .233, but has 20 homers and 54 RBIs.

While he was absent, the Yankees were able to keep pace in the playoff race by getting a 8-1 win against the red-hot Kansas City Royals.

With the season winding down and the Yankees behind in the race with an already-depleted roster, they need a healthy Teixeira to have any chance of reaching the playoffs.
