Yankees Injury Update: Mark Teixeira hurts finger on slide, gets stitches

By on 8/07/2014 12:00:00 PM

New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira escaped without a fracture but still needed stitches in his left little finger after a play at the plate on Wednesday night. MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reports that Teixeira caught the finger on the spikes of Tigers catcher Bryan Holaday when he slid in to score the Yankees' fifth run of the night. The first baseman was sent for X-rays after the game but Hoch tweeted that they were negative:

The cut Teixeira sustained was to the inside of his finger. He told Hoch that he expected the issue to affect him more when batting from the right side but hoped he wouldn't miss much time. The Yankees will play Cleveland in a weekend series, starting on Friday at 7:05PM ET.

As expected, Teixeira is not in the lineup on Thursday, with Chase Headley once again moving over to play first and Martin Prado coming in from the outfield to play third base, with Ichiro Suzuki in right field. That's the same configuration the Yankees used when Teixeira was scratched after feeling lightheaded before Monday's game.
