49ers Injury Update: Anthony Davis, Alex Boone

By on 9/06/2014 10:30:00 AM

The  San Francisco 49ers had some stressful final weeks before the regular season, so they must be happy to start the season. The bad part is that even after all the bad news they've received ( Aldon Smith suspension and Ray McDonald arrest), there still more bad news.

Kevin Pantra writes that Jim Harbaugh has ruled out right tackle Anthony Davis for Sunday. He's a staple to their O-line, so he'll definitely be missed.

In place of Anthony Davis will be Jonathan Martin. Martin is remembered for being the bully victim last year in Miami, but that's in the past now. He can be a good offensive lineman for the 49ers, and his ties with Coach Harbaugh should make feel right at home.

Some good news: Kevin Pantra also wrote that Alex Boone will be active for the game on Sunday against Dallas, even after missing almost all of training camp.

The 49ers need the offensive line to be one their key strengths. With the return of Alex Boone, it should still be a strength of theirs.

The real test will be can they withstand not having Aldon Smith and NaVorro Bowman on the field. That test starts on Sunday, and it won't end until week six, if Bowman comes off the PUP then. It'll be a challenging couple of weeks for San Francisco.
