49ers Injury Update: Michael Crabtree could miss week one with calf injury

The San Francisco 49ers could be without their best wide receiver in week one. Michael Crabtree has been held up in training camp with a calf injury for a while now, and it's not known how much he's progressing.

Matt Maiocco of of CSNBAYAREA reports that Michael Crabtree's staus for the game against Dallas is unknown. Crabtree did not participate in practice yesterday. Obviously that's not a good sign toward his status for the game.

Crabtree has had health issues in the past. It looked like this would be the year that he's finally healthy, but it probably won't end up working out like that. This injury could end up hurting Crabtree in many ways.

It could hurt his performance on the field if he comes back too early from his injury. As I previously stated, Crabtree has had his fair share of injuries.

It could also hurt his wallet. Crabtree is in the final year of his deal, and if he shows that he's not capable of staying healthy, he may lose himself a couple million dollars a year.

Then there's the 49ers as a whole. They can't afford more loses to their team. They're not as talented and deep as they used to be. The offense will need to start carrying the load at times. They have the potential to do so, but having Crabtree can put their offense over the top.

This 49ers team will be challenged this season, especially early on, so it will be very interesting to see how they respond.
