49ers Injury Update: Vernon Davis on crutches with ankle sprain

By on 9/16/2014 10:45:00 AM

The San Francisco 49ers blew a late lead in their loss to the Chicago Bears, and also lost tight end Vernon Davis in the fourth quarter with what is being described as a sprained ankle.

Davis went in for an MRI on Monday, according to CSNBayArea.com, however the results have not yet been released. Davis left with ten minutes left in the fourth quarter and did not return.

According to David Fucillo at ninersnation.com:

Aaron Wilson is reporting the 49ers are expected to sign tight end Xavier Grimble to their practice squad. He joins Asante Cleveland as the second tight end on the practice squad. This news comes a day after Vernon Davis and Vance McDonald both suffered injuries against the Chicago Bears.
We will have to keep an eye out for further news on the severity of the injury. Being on crutches is not a good sign, but only the MRI results will give us a further diagnosis.
