76ers Injury Update: Joel Embiid may not play in 2014-15 season

Philadelphia 76ers GM Sam Hinkie is unsure if Joel Embiid, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, will play this season. Embiid is recovering from a broken right foot, and Hinkie explained in an interview with that the rehab timetable doesn't matter to him.

We'll take an approach without knowing where the finish line is. We want to know how we can be sure to put him in a position to have a long NBA career. However long [rehab] takes will be however long it takes. In my experience with this injury, a very reasonable approach that our medical professionals take is to put these hurdles in place for them to rise above and then measure the symptoms and then let's see what happens in the days after. Is there tightness or soreness or swelling? Does the MRI or X-ray show something different? When we that road map, no one knows (how long it will take].
Hinkie also touched on Embiid's well-established relationship with Luc Richard Mbah A Moute, who is the newest addition to the Sixers.
Luc's relationship with Joel can only help. We're definitely in the mode of player development and Joel's a big part of that.
With the franchise in player-development mode, and there being no rush for Emiid to see the court, it looks like Embiid's rookie season will be in the 2015-16 season. For now, he can kick back, relax and watch the Sixers "develop".
