Angels Injury Update: Josh Hamilton back in lineup

By on 9/16/2014 08:00:00 PM

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton will return to the starting lineup Tuesday night after an 11-day layoff due to a sore right shoulder joint. Hamilton will hit sixth and serve as the designated hitter as the Angels announced via Twitter early Tuesday evening.
Hamilton came out of the Angels' September 4 game in Minnesota because he strained the AC joint in his right shoulder, his throwing shoulder. He had a cortisone shot soon afterward, but he was unable to play until Tuesday night. He has hit off a tee and performed running drills in the past few days, indicating that he was healthy enough to DH.

Hamilton is having a sub-par season, hitting just .263 with 10 HR and 44 RBI in 88 games. He missed 48 games from April 9 to June 3 because of a torn UCL in his left thumb, on which he had surgery. His average has gone down every month since his return after a hot start in early April.

The Angels have already clinched a playoff berth and could clinch the A.L. West title as early as Wednesday night as they have a magic number of three entering play on Tuesday.
