Angels Injury Update: Josh Hamilton has multiple cortisone shots

By on 9/21/2014 10:45:00 AM

The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Texas Rangers on Saturday by the score of 8-5. The win was the 96th for the Angels, who have the best record in the Major Leagues. The Angels continue to play without Josh Hamilton, who has been out with a rib cage injury. The good news is Hamilton is improving and should be ready to return soon and contribute in the post season.

Our own Darius Austin reported on September 19 that Hamilton missed Wednesday and Thursday's game due to pain in his chest and right rib cage. Fortunately an MRI came back clean.

An update on Hamilton, as reported by Matthew DeFranks of, is that he had seven cortisone shots, five nerve blocks on the back and two in the chest.  There is no definitive timetable for his return, but Hamilton is looking to come back by Wednesday or Friday at the latest.

Hamilton indicated that the pain around his ribs has subsided and he no longer has trouble breathing.

Hamilton, in his eighth Major League season, is batting .263 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI this season. The veteran outfielder has played for the Reds, Rangers and Angels and is a career .292 hitter with 192 home runs and 676 RBI.
