Angels Injury Update: Josh Hamilton scratched with shoulder problem

By on 9/08/2014 09:15:00 AM

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton missed his third consecutive game on Sunday when he was scratched with a recurrence of the shoulder discomfort that has kept him out since he made an early exit on Thursday. MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reports that Hamilton was set to play in Sunday's contest but started to experience stiffness, as manager Mike Scioscia told Gonzalez:

"He felt good in the first round of [batting practice]," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said before the Angels' 14-4 win, "and then it just started to stiffen up a little bit."
Hamilton did not seem to be particularly concerned and just hoped that he would be feeling good enough to play on Monday. Gonzalez noted that the discomfort has moved from Hamilton's right AC joint to his trapezius.

This has been another disappointing season for Hamilton, who again has an OPS under .750, with just 10 home runs in 88 games. The Angels did not need any help on Sunday in any case, crushing the hapless Minnesota Twins 14-4 to complete the sweep. Grant Green started in left field in Hamilton's place, going 0-for-2 before being replaced by Kole Calhoun, who played right with Collin Cowgill in left.
