Athletics Injury Update: Coco Crisp out with neck issue

By on 9/02/2014 11:00:00 PM

After a major collision attempting to rob a home run this past weekend, Oakland Athletics outfielder Coco Crisp is still out of the lineup. John Hickey is reporting that Crisp had injections in his neck to relieve pressure and is expected to be back this weekend.
With the A's slumping, Crisp is not a player they can afford to lose for a long period of time.  He is not only a top flight centerfielder, but an all important piece of their lineup in the leadoff spot.  Since the team lost Cespedes they have struggled to score runs and missing Crisp just hurts the lineup even more.

This season, Crisp is batting .254, but his patient eye has helped him to carry a .346 on base percentage.  He has also been able to provide a spark with his speed by stealing 16 bases on 20 attempts.

In his absence, Craig Gentry has taken over in centerfield for the time being.  He has a .249 average in 88 games this season.

Down the stretch one of the most important assets on a team is leadership.  When Crisp returns, they will hope to benefit from having one of their leaders back as they attempt to regain the American League West.
