Athletics Injury Update: Craig Gentry, Jed Lowrie, John Jaso

The Oakland Athletics defeated the Los Angeles Angels Monday night to pull ahead in the AL Wild Card race by one game. MLB has their probability of getting to the postseason at 99%, with six games remaining. Below is a report on some injuries that could affect the team in October.

  • Outfielder Craig Gentry (concussion) has not been cleared to play and, according to Susan Slusser of, he probably won't be cleared before the end of the season.  However, manager Bob Melvin said Gentry was "was feeling better [Monday}, with less of a headache and more energy." Gentry put up a batting line of .254/.319/.289(OPS+ 75) in 94 games.
  • Catcher John Jaso (.264/.337/.430, OPS+ 117 with nine homers and 40 RBI in 99 games) has been on the concussion list since August 24. His season is also likely over, reports Aaron Leibowitz of
  • Shortstop Jed Lowrie has a bruised left foot (from being hit by a pitch on Sunday) and a broken right index finger, but plans to manage the swelling and keep playing. He went 1 for 4 in Monday's game. For the season he's hitting .245/.320/.354 (OPS+ 92).
