Athletics Injury Update: Nick Punto activated

By on 9/09/2014 06:30:00 PM

The Oakland A's enter tonight's game against the Chicago White Sox with a record of 80-63, second in the American League West. At eight games out in the division with only 19 games to play, the A's have little chance of catching the Angels. But they are in good position for a wild card berth. A player who can help down the stretch is veteran infielder Nick Punto, who has been activated from the disabled list.

Our own Rose Ingberman reported yesterday that Punto was running and was close to returning from a strained right hamstring which has kept him sidelined since August 3.

Susan Slusser, who covers the A's for the San Francisco Chronicle, confirmed Punto's status.
Punto, in his 14th Major League season, is batting .207 with two home runs and 13 RBI this season. The veteran has played for the Phillies, Twins, Cardinals, Red Sox, Dodgers and A's and has a career batting average of .246 with 19 home runs and 262 RBI.
