Athletics Injury Update: Sean Doolittle making progress

By on 9/06/2014 06:30:00 AM

The Oakland A's entered a weekend series against the Houston Astros with a 79-61 record, second in the American League West. With 22 games remaining in the season, the A's have a good chance at a post season berth. The good news coming down the stretch is that closer Sean Doolittle is making progress and could return as soon as Monday.

Our own Rose Ingberman reported on August 31 that Doolittle, who has been on the DL with a right intercostal strain, was "feeling better" but not ready for work on the field.

An update on Doolittle, as reported by Aaron Leibowitz of, is that he continues to make progress, passing each test in his rehab process.  Doolittle, on the disabled list since August 24, threw a long toss session on Wednesday.  If he continues to make progress, he could possibly come off the DL when  eligible on Monday.

Doolittle, in his third Major League season, is 1-3 with 20 saves and a 2.28 ERA this season. In 55 1/3 innings, he's allowed only 34 hits and struck out 80. Doolittle has a career record of 8-9 with 23 saves and an ERA of 2.83.
