Bengals Injury Update: Vontaze Burfict leaves game with concussion.

By on 9/07/2014 04:20:00 PM

After losing tight end Tyler Eifert earlier in the game, the Bengals defense suffered a blow later: middle linebacker Vontaze Burfict left the game late in the second half with what later was determined to be a concussion.

Burfict lowered his head on an attempted tackle of Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco with 40 seconds left in the half and left the game. The team later ruled him out for the remainder of the contest.

The 23-year-old tallied four tackles, a pass deflection, and a fumble recovery before exiting the game. Burfict led the NFL in tackles last season. The Bengals signed Burfict as an undrafted free agent after the 2012 NFL Draft.

The Bengals defense shut out the Ravens in the first half, but after Burfict left, Baltimore was able to score 16 second-half points.

Before he can return to the field, the linebacker must go through the NFL' s concussion protocol.
