Bills Injury Report: Stephon Gilmore, Brandon Spikes, Sammy Watkins

By on 9/05/2014 08:48:00 PM

As the Buffalo Bills edge closer and closer to their showdown with the Chicago Bears to kickoff the 2014 season, one of their offensive weapons appears to be closer and closer to starting for the team Sunday.

Wideout Sammy Watkins was listed as probable on the team's final injury report, released Friday
afternoon. The move does not come as too much of a surprise, as Watkins has had full participation in practice each of the last three days.

Watkins has been dealing with rib injuries he suffered late in the preseason, but it does not appear that the injuries will be severe enough to keep the rookie from making his debut this weekend.

The news does not appear to be as good for safety Jonathan Meeks or tight end Lee Smith, who are both listed as doubtful. Meeks has been dealing with a neck injury, forcing him out of practice all week.

Meanwhile, Smith is dealing with a toe injury that has kept him out of practice all week. If he is forced to miss time, the Bills will only have two tight ends on the roster: Scott Chandler and Chris Gragg. Head coach Doug Marrone is fine with that possibility.

"I'm comfortable," Marrone said. "We did it quite a bit last year."

Linebacker Brandon Spikes is expected to play this week despite a nagging knee injury. Spikes was limited in practice Thursday but was full-go on Friday. Similarly, linebacker Randall Johnson is expected to play for Buffalo. Johnson has been dealing with an ankle injury but participated in both Thursday and Friday practices and, like Spikes and Watkins, is listed as probable.

A new addition to the team's injury report is running back Anthony Dixon. Dixon injured his hamstring during the team's practice Thursday, forcing him from practice early. Dixon is listed as questionable, and so is cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

Gilmore was limited in practice Wednesday, but was able to participate fully both Thursday and Friday. Despite the questionable designation, he is expected to play Sunday.
