By on 9/08/2014 06:45:00 AM

The Toronto Blue Jays improved to 73-69 on the season following a 3-1 win over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. The Blue Jays have been staying above .500 behind an offense that is sixth in the Major Leagues in runs scored. The pitching staff has struggled to an ERA of 4.12 this season and was dealt another blow when it's been confirmed that Chad Jenkins is out for the rest of the season with a broken hand.

As reported by Gregor Chisholm of, Jenkins will miss the rest of the season after he suffered a fractured right hand during batting practice prior to Thursday's game against the Rays.  Jenkins is expected to need four to six weeks to recover.

It's a big bullpen loss for the Blue Jays, as Jenkins had become a versatile pitcher in both middle and long relief despite being optioned to the Minors six times this season.

Jenkins, who has pitched in parts of the last three season with the Blue Jays, is 1-1 with a 2.56 ERA in 21 games this season. In 44 career games, including six starts, Jenkins is 3-4 with a 3.25 ERA.
