Blue Jays Injury Update: John Mayberry expected back Monday

By on 9/01/2014 10:00:00 AM

Immediately after acquiring him from the Philadelphia Phillies, the Toronto Blue Jays expect to activate outfielder John Mayberry, Jr., from the disabled list on Monday. Doing so will give Mayberry eligibility for the postseason should the Blue Jays make it.

Mayberry went on the disabled list July 22 because of inflammation in his left wrist. The Phillies also expected to activate him Monday, according to The Canadian Press. However, they traded him to Toronto just before the August 31 waiver trade deadline. The Blue Jays announced the deal Sunday night.
Mayberry was hitting .213/.304/.418 with 6 HR and 21 RBI in 63 games for the Phillies before his injury.

Toronto enters play on September 1 five games behind Detroit for the second AL Wild Card berth with Seattle, Cleveland, and New York all ahead of the Jays.
