Braves Injury Update: Justin Upton exits with bruised triceps

By on 9/02/2014 09:30:00 PM

After being hit by a pitch from Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Kyle Kendrick, the Atlanta Braves are reporting that Justin Upton has left the game due to a bruised triceps.
On a team that is struggling to score runs, this injury is not good news for the Braves.  The hope is that he is back in the lineup sooner rather than later.  Ryan Doumit, who is batting .192 on the season replaced Upton in left field.

While the Braves bats have struggled to score, Upton has been one of their keys to any rally.  Upton is currently batting, .286 with a team-leading 26 home runs. He also leads the team in slugging percentage and RBIs.

As the first round pick of the 2005 draft, Upton seems to have been in the league forever, but although he is in his eighth major league season, Upton is just 27-years-old and entering his prime.  In his career he is a .277 hitter, with 161 career home runs.

Down the stretch run, if the Braves are going to contend for a playoff spot they are going to need Upton in the lineup.
