Buccaneers Injury Update: Doug Martin suffered 'minor' injury

By on 9/10/2014 09:21:00 AM

Doug Martin left Sunday's opening match-up with the Carolina Panthers with what was deemed a leg injury. Bucs' Head Coach Lovie Smith said that Martin's injury is minor and he was available to return late in the game.

Although Martin has been called by Lovie Smith his 'bell cow back', According to

“Doug did go down with a little minor injury there, so we had to make a change, and from there he was able to come back and he was ready to go,” Lovie said on Total Access on WDAE-AM 620. “Bobby had come and had given us a little bit of life, and as I’ve mentioned we want to play more than one running back throughout. So it was just a perfect time to keep both of them involved.”

The fact that Martin was available is a good sign. The fact that Lovie Smith decided to stay with Bobby Rainey may be of concern to Martin and his fantasy owners. Also from

Joe gets what Lovie is saying, the bottom line is Martin was off the field at crunch time, after only nine carries for nine yards, and two truly horrendous displays of pass blocking.

So not only should Martin's health be monitored going forward, but also how Lovie Smith decides to use both he and Rainey. Maybe it was just 'tactical', or perhaps there is more to the injury than they are letting us know.
