Buccaneers Injury Update: Doug Martin likely to play

By on 9/13/2014 12:30:00 PM

After suffering a left knee injury on Sunday, Doug Martin seems to be on track to play this Sunday. He returned to bench late in the game Sunday, but Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach Lovie Smith decided to keep Bobby Rainey in the game as he said Rainey gave them a 'boost'.
There has been a little controversy to Martin not returning. According to the Tampa Bay Times, Last week, a blogger for USA Today, using unnamed sources, tweeted that Martin was benched for the blocking mistake and not the knee injury. When Lovie Smith was confronted about it, he wasn't very happy: "Whose report? Who is that guy? So do any of you guys know him? I don't either,"

Martin's knee injured was said to be minor and he has participated in practice this week. He is expected to be able to start on Sunday. He, and the offense as a whole, have to improve on their week one effort. He must assure he can pass block better for Josh McCown, and needs to get a rhythm going in the run game. Keep on eye on the final injury report leading up to the Bucs game. Fantasy owners should also monitor how Lovie Smith utilizes both he and Bobby Rainey going forward.
