Buccaneers Injury Update: Josh McCown has significant sprain

By on 9/21/2014 10:30:00 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterback Josh McCown is likely to miss some time as a result of a substantial right thumb sprain he suffered during the Buc’s beatdown at the hands of the Falcons last Thursday night.

As reported by Pat Yasinskas of, McCown has only been able to muster 420 passing yards, four interceptions and two touchdowns to kick off the first three games and as a result the Buccaneers have yet to win a game this season. With upcoming games versus the Bengals and Lions and rematches against the Panthers and Falcons, this team better get it together and quickly.

If you think about, and I’d hope McCown would agree, this injury is a blessing in disguise really. Josh should take this week to not only heal, but to watch as much tape as humanly possible. I mean coach Smith has stood by McCown all season, even after their most recent loss. Unless backup QB Mike Glennon plays out of his mind while McCown’s thumb heals, I would say his job is safe.

No kidding around, this team needs to play better or they are going to have a rough year ahead of them. I’m not saying this team was going to compete for a playoff spot; they are in the NFC West and their schedule is tough, but I’m sure the team wants to improve upon last year’s 4 -12 record.

Although McCown’s status is still up in the air, expect to see Glennon get the start when the team takes on Pittsburgh at 1:00 PM EST at Heinz Field next Sunday.
