Cardinals Injury Report: Andre Ellington, Tyrann Mathieu, Alex Okafor

By on 9/08/2014 03:00:00 PM

The Arizona Cardinals’ final Week 1 injury report has some big names on it, but they still have a chance to be nearly at full strength Monday night against the San Diego Chargers:

It seemed likely that running back Andre Ellington would certainly be out after suffering a foot injury earlier in the week, but he is officially listed as questionable and will be evaluated at game time. Ellington is expected to take a leap forword in 2014 after putting up over 1000 total yards and four touchdowns in his rookie campaign.

If Ellington can’t go, Jonathan Dwyer would likely take over as the primary running back.

Tyrann Mathieu also has a chance to play as he attempts to finish his recovery from a torn ACL suffered last December. While Mathieu participated in practice all week, he is listed as questionable and will be a game-time decision.

Linebacker Alex Okafor is the only player officialy out for Arizona, as he deals with a thigh injury. Okafor missed all of his rookie season in 2013 with a torn biceps.

Starting inside linebacker Kevin Minter is probable with a chest injury. Defensive end Frostee Rucker, who is expected to start after Darnell Dockett was lost for the season, should also be able to play with a chest injury.

Larry Fitzgerald is on the injury report with a minor knee issue, but all indications are that he will play at full capacity. Backup guard Jonathan Cooper rounds out the injury report on offense, as he is probable with a toe injury.

The Cardinals could have an interesting situation on special teams Monday night, as punter Dave Zastudil is questionable with a left groin injury. If Zastudil can’t play, kicker Chandler Catanzaro will likely have to take on double duty as the punter.
