Cardinals Injury Update: Matt Adams back in lineup

By on 9/16/2014 04:45:00 PM

After sitting Sunday with a "slight" oblique strain, and with an off-day Monday, Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams is back in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cardinals lead the NL Central by 3.5 games with 12 left to play.

The lefty-batting Adams is hitting .288/.319.464 (OPS+ 115) with 15 homers and 64 RBI in 132 games. He was on the DL with a strained left calf in June.

Adams, 25, was drafted by the Cardinals in 2009 (23rd round), making his debut on May 12, 2012. He hit only .244/.286/.384 in 27 games, so the Cards sent him down to Triple-A Memphis for the rest of the season. However, he fared much better in 2013 (.284/.335/.503, OPS+129), allowing the Cards to feel comfortable with him as their full-time first baseman for 2014, so they moved Allen Craig to the outfield. Adams is pre-arb and under team control through 2018.
