Cardinals Injury Update: Matt Adams, Matt Carpenter

By on 9/20/2014 05:15:00 PM

The St. Louis Cardinals will enter tonight's game against the Cincinnati Reds without two of their major offensive stars, but it does not appear to be a major concern.  Matt Adams and Matt Carpenter appear to have a stomach bug and will be held out at least for tonight's game.
Adams has also been dealing with an oblique injury, so it is at least good news that this is not a setback related to that.

Both players are key pieces to the Cardinals' current and future success.  Adams has batted .287 this season with 15 homers and 67 RBIs.  Carpenter has also had a strong second full season in the majors batting .270 with eight homers and 58 RBIs.

Over the past week the Cardinals have solidified their playoff status.  They hold a 2.5 game lead over the red-hot Pittsburgh Pirates.  They will look to get these players back in the lineup soon to help win the all-important division title.
