Cardinals Injury Update: Matt Adams out with "tweaked oblique"

By on 9/04/2014 07:15:00 PM

Heading into a huge four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers, the St. Louis Cardinals may be without their first baseman, Matt Adams, a known Brewers killer.  With Adams out of the lineup today, Jenifer Langosch is reporting that he is day-to-day with a "tweaked" oblique.
Entering the final month of the season, this is not good news for the Cardinals.  Oblique injuries have been known to linger, and losing Adams for a long period of time would be a big blow to the offense, especially since they have already dealt last year's first baseman, Allen Craig.

In his first full-season as the everyday first baseman, Adams has been one of the more consistent threats in the St. Louis lineup.  While his power numbers have been limited to 13 home runs, Adams has a .292 average with 57 RBIs.

In his absence Xavier Scruggs will make his major league debut tonight. Scruggs hit .287 with 22 home runs and 86 RBIs this season in AAA Memphis.
