Cardinals Injury Update: Matt Adams returns to lineup

By on 9/06/2014 11:30:00 PM

Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams returned to the lineup Saturday in Milwaukee, as the first place Cardinals took on the second place Brewers. Adams last played Thursday, and sat out the past two games with an oblique strain. The Cardinals beat the Brewers 5-3 to gain a 4 game lead in the NL Central. .

Adams returned with a bang in the first inning, taking a 1-2 pitch deep to right field for a two run homer, his 14th on the year. Adams then went on to finish 1 for 4 with two strikeouts. Adams has been slumping as of late. His average has dropped 12 points over the past 10 games, going 5 for 35, with only one HR over that span.

The Cardinals hope that Adams can break out of this slump soon, as they try to finish strong in September and hold the lead in the NL Central. If they want to make a deep run in October again, Adams has to be a big part of that.
