Cardinals Injury Update: Matt Holliday sits with back tightness

By on 9/08/2014 07:00:00 AM

During the past week the St. Louis Cardinals have been rolling.  On Sunday they were still able to be victorious and stretch their National League Central lead over the Milwaukee Brewers without key offensive performer Matt Holliday.  Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com is reporting that Holliday missed the game due to back soreness that he has been dealing with for the past few days.
Although Holliday is the leader of the offense, the Cardinals had no problem as they cruised to a 9-1 victory over Milwaukee.

In a season that has been below his career average, Holliday has continued to come through in crucial situations when his team has needed him most.  Though he has just a .266 average with 16 home runs, he has ten homers after the break.

Batting in a lineup that is filled with young players, the 34-year-old veteran Holliday remains their most trusted bat.

Even though they have extended their divisional lead to 4.5 games this past week, they cannot afford to be without Holliday for a long period of time.
